FORT WAYNE - On Wednesday October 22 through Friday, October 24 from 7am to 7pm, Redeemer Radio celebrated their Fall Sharathon at their Mary Cross Tippmann Broadcast Center studios, Fort Wayne. The event raises necessary funds to help cover the operating expenses of their listener-supported radio stations.
The 18th, semi-annual, Sharathon was one of firsts. It was the first time that listeners in the greater Michiana area heard Sharathon on 95.7 FM as well as the first time that Sharathon was heard on three FM stations: 106.3 FM (Greater Fort Wayne), 95.7 FM (Michiana), and 89.9 FM (NE Indiana/NW Ohio). Contribution amounts made it the most successful Fall Sharathon to date. Another record breaker during Sharathon was the number of turkeys donated to the Franciscan Center by Tim Didier Meats. Over 190 turkeys were donated to the Franciscan Center to Tim Didier Meats through contributions of our donors.
Sharathon drew over 450 volunteers and guests, consisting of priests, school principals, students, religious and lay ministers, covering 36 hours of on-air fundraising, phone bank operation, food donation, and pledge maintenance. The theme for this Sharathon was Now is the Time. Studio guests shared with listeners on how lives are being impacted and changed through the work and outreach of their parishes, schools and ministries.
Chair couple, Joe and Katie Brown, said of the event “[There were] many dedicated staff and volunteers who came together to make Sharathon a success. Sharathon is a celebration of our blessed Catholic community. We were blessed to see God in action throughout Sharathon.”
Donations are still being accepted for Sharathon. Anyone can pledge online at RedeemerRadio.com, by phone 888-436-1450 or in person. The Spring Sharathon for Redeemer Radio will be held Wednesday, April 29 through Friday, May 1, 2015. Print Friendly Version>

Feb 28, 2014 - In a surprising and unique development for the local radio community, Redeemer Radio, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, will receive the gift of an FM radio station in exchange for its AM station. The exchange comes about thanks to the recently announced purchase by Adams Radio Group LLC of two commercial radio groups in Fort Wayne.
To comply with FCC ownership rules, the Adams Group will exchange WHPP 106.3 FM for WLYV AM 1450 on which Redeemer Radio currently broadcasts. Notably, no cash will be exchanged in the transaction between Adams and Redeemer Radio.
Dave Stevens, Executive Director of Redeemer Radio said “This is an incredible opportunity for Redeemer Radio made possible by Adams swapping 106.3 WHPP-FM for AM 1450 WLYV. Because of their generosity, Redeemer Radio will grow even further as we reach thousands of new listeners on the FM dial 24-hours a day. Our local radio ministry will now reach new northeast Indiana listeners from Angola to Decatur, Huntington to Warsaw and throughout the Fort Wayne area. In our eight years of broadcasting on AM 1450, over 6,000 Catholics and non-Catholics, throughout the area, have regularly supported Redeemer Radio allowing us to share the truth and beauty of our faith. Even more listeners will now be welcomed home to our family of faith.”
In the transaction, Adams Radio Group is acquiring FM stations WJFX, WBTU, WXKE and WNHT, and AM stations WLYV and WGL. Calvary Church acquires WGL-FM in an exchange for an FM Translator to Adams as Redeemer receives WHPP-FM for WLYV–AM. The deal is expected to close in approximately 90 days pending FCC approval.
